Well, I dont know what the effect is medically but I know that students need adequate sleep to perform optimally during day time so whatever takes away sleep from them and for whatever reason is not a good thing for them because they cant cheat nature so they will be sleeping inside class or they will not be attentive.

They will not sleep for some time to achieve something but later they will sleep. But at least they have achieved something.
